Blue Cross/Blue Shield Names Methodist Hospital 'Blue Distinction Center' For Knee, Hip Surgery
Methodist Hospital has been designated a “Blue Distinction Center” knee and hip replacement surgery by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska.
Blue Distinction Centers for knee and hip replacement are part of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association’s expansion of its Blue Distinction designation. It is based on rigorous, evidence-based selection criteria.
“This designation recognizes the collaborative efforts of our orthopedic surgeons, nurses, rehabilitation staff, physical therapists, anesthesiologists and patient safety professionals to ensure that our patients receive a positive, quality experience,” said Steve Goeser, president and CEO, Methodist Hospital. “For our patients, this translates into better overall outcomes, including shorter hospital stays, lower re-admission rates and fewer complications.”
The selection criteria used to evaluate facilities were developed with input from a panel of expert physicians includes:
- Established acute care inpatient facility, including intensive care, emergency care and a full range of patient support services with full accreditation by a CMS-deemed national accreditation organization.
- Experience and training of program surgeons, including case volume.
- Quality management programs, including surgical checklists, as well as tracking and evaluation of clinical outcomes and process of care.
- Multi-disciplinary clinical pathways and teams to coordinate and streamline care, including transitions of care.
- Shared decision making and pre-operative patient education.
